6 Step Hair Care Routine

A simple and natural guide to loving and treating your hair

Hello,

I'll be honest and say that, prior to COVID-19, my hair care routine was quite poor and I never put much thought into it. Like many of you, however, I have been taking advantage of my time at home these past few months to focus on strengthening my hair and committing to an established routine.

Before and After

Despite the general advice to trim your ends every few months, I was so busy in NYC and Milano that I never had the time to go to a hair salon or find somebody to trim my hair. Thus, my split ends grew significantly over the months, causing damage and unevenness.

Once I arrived back home to Miami, however, I created my own natural hair care routine with the intentions of rebuilding, strengthening, and growing my hair. The first step was finally trimming my split ends. As you can see from the images above, the trim assisted with getting rid of split ends and creating an even line at the end.

6 Step Routine:

  1. Hair trim- to ensure that split ends are removed.

  2. Vita Clean HQ shower head- this essential oil shower head is a new edition to my bathroom collection and I have yet to try it out. I purchased it because of the product's focus on extra filtration and emitting essential oils. I will write a more thorough review on the product in the near future.

  3. Braid every night- go to sleep with my hair in braids to ensure soft curls by morning time.

  4. No heat- aside from my appointment to get my hair trimmed, I have committed to not applying any heat to my hair as a form of preventing further damage and breakage. This also allows for natural curls to form and flourish.

  5. Oil treatment- every two weeks, I have been applying olive oil to my hair and allowing it to sit for two hours before washing it out. On a daily basis, if my scalp gets dry, I have been using coconut oil to moisturize it.

  6. Sea salt exposure- I have made it a goal to go to the beach at least every three weeks to expose my hair to salt water. Of course, Miami Beach does not have the most pure salt water due to all the human activity that occurs, however, it still always nourishes and enriches my hair.

My general goal for this hair care routine is to nourish my hair and embrace a more natural state. Do you follow a hair care routine? If so, what do you normally do to take care of your hair?

Love always and forever,

Vale
